Manchester United Agree £65m Deal for Carlos Baleba

August 24, 2026

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign midfielder Carlos Baleba in a deal worth an initial £65 million, with a further £5 million potentially due in add-ons.

The agreement was confirmed by a source at Manchester United, according to Reuters, with Brighton also securing a sell-on clause as part of the deal. Baleba is expected to undergo a medical before the transfer is officially completed.

United Continue Midfield Revolution

The 22-year-old Cameroon international becomes Manchester United’s third midfield signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.

Baleba joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 and made 112 appearances for the club. Last season, he featured in 31 Premier League matches and also represented Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations.

His arrival represents another major investment as United look to rebuild their midfield and compete on multiple fronts during the 2026/27 campaign.

Medical Still to Come

Although the clubs have agreed the transfer, Baleba must still complete his medical before the move can be formally concluded.

The midfielder recently suffered an ankle ligament injury during pre-season, although reports indicate that the injury is not expected to keep him out for an extended period.

What It Means for Manchester United

United have made midfield recruitment a major priority this summer, and Baleba’s profile gives them another young, physically powerful option in the centre of the pitch.

The deal also underlines the scale of United’s spending as they prepare for a season that includes Premier League and Champions League football.

With the Premier League transfer window closing on 1 September at 23:00 BST, more movement is expected before the deadline.

🚨 BREAKING UPDATE

Carlos Baleba’s Manchester United move is now subject to a medical and final formalities. More updates will follow as the deal progresses.
